Puritan Ice Cream Co
About This Spot
Stepping into Puritan Ice Cream Co’s humble space on Washington Street feels like uncovering a quietly treasured secret tucked into Roslindale’s southwest corridor. Rather than the bustle of a typical ice cream parlor, the atmosphere here is more purposeful and unhurried — a working hub where ice cream is crafted with a thoughtful, behind-the-scenes care. There’s no sit-down nook or casual scoop shop chatter, just the steady hum of freezers and the faint promise of something sweet waiting inside.
This is a place where the experience is less about instant indulgence and more about anticipation and discovery. Visitors often arrive with a clear flavor in mind, as the shop operates primarily as a wholesale producer crafting premium batches for local stands and restaurants. The flavors rotate with the seasons and the rhythms of production, inviting you into a gentle dance of planning and returning — often carrying home generous containers to savor slowly rather than quick, fleeting cones.
The mood around Puritan is quietly neighborly, fueled by the kind of patience and appreciation that only true locals seem to share. When the doors are open, there’s a subtle warmth that comes from connecting with a product made to be shared and enjoyed beyond the moment — the kind of ice cream that nourishes summer gatherings, family traditions, and an enduring affection for simple, well-made goodness.
If your visit falls during the limited weekday hours, you’ll find a quiet rhythm that honors the craft over convenience, hinting at the genuine care poured into each batch. Puritan isn’t about rush or spectacle; it’s about returning to an authentic, time-honored experience where the slow reveal of favorite flavors enhances rather than overshadows the joy of a truly exceptional ice cream.

Easily the best ice cream in Boston's southwest corridor. You can't go in expecting to get a cone or any single serve portion as it is a wholesale business. Also, I would come with a flavor in mind, as being wholesale they don't have every flavor in front of you, all the ice cream is in freezers in the back, nor do they stock every flavor year round. I say come with a flavor profile in mind and the staff with be more than helpful to get you the ice cream you desire. My go to is premium chocolate and oreo; basic but forever delicious.

Great ice cream - $7 per half gallon They have a delicious new flavor, blueberry crumble, which would be amazing on warm blueberry pie. We actually bought a stand-up freezer which we load with a dozen or so flavors for the summer.

Happy that I was able to catch them still open when I did, they clise at 2pm during week which makes it hard for a person that works until 4pm. Puritan ice cream are well worth it.

Puritan Ice Cream is a commercial manufacturer of high quality ice cream for ice cream stands, restaurants, and private label. This is a commercial food producer. There is no sit down area here and no food delivery pick up for takeout. Google and other search services have this wrong. As a good neighbor policy they will sometimes sell large 3-gallon or half-gallon packaging to locals or to schools for special events but there is no formal retail operation here either.

I had a million questions about this place, and here are the answers I found today: 1. They're an ice cream wholesaler but sell half and 3 gallon containers to the public weekdays 9-2, year round 2. If you're a general public customer, you enter through the red door on the left side of the building. It has the office's hours hand-written on the door. 3. When you walk in, you walk into a tiny room with a window into the office. Someone was sitting in the office and he was very friendly. 4. If you tell them a general sense of what kind of ice cream you want, they'll tell you what they have that day 5. They're cash only. The 1/2 gallon of ice cream I got was $7
